A leak at an oil pipeline off the coast of Orange County caused a massive oil spill of an estimated 126,000 gallons. The spill has affected both coastal waters and local wetlands, harming ecological preserves and hurting the wildlife.
In response, Kaaya Batra from the Long Beach Green Schools Campaign released the following statement:
“First the toxic flaring at refineries during the earthquake, and now the massive oil spill damaging 13 square miles of coastline. When will we realize that fossil fuels will always block our chance at a safe and healthy future? The message of the spill could not be clearer: it is long overdue to transition to a clean, renewable future in order to preserve the stability and prosperity of our community.”
